Health Reporting
Welcome to FA Health Reporting
AFA Flight Attendant Health Reporting System (FAH-RS) Over the years, AFA members with chronic health problems, ranging from asthma to leukemia to multiple miscarriages have called AFA to ask if we know of other flight attendants with the same medical conditions. They also want to know if we have any information to suggest that their condition could be work-related. Currently, there is very little available information on possible associations between flight attendants' work environment and their health. In an attempt to address this problem, AFA developed a health reporting system especially for flight attendants. It is a voluntary, confidential, standardized registry, specifically for flight attendants. The Flight Attendant Health Reporting System (FAH-RS) is open to all flight attendants in the United States. If you want to participate in AFA's health reporting system, you need to print out the two forms: (the reporting form and the privacy policy). These are found at the AFA International website. (www.afanet.org/safetyandhealth/diseaseregistry.asp). Fill these out and mail them to the address at the bottom of the form. You can also find a list there of frequently asked questions. The FAH-RS allows AFA to collect standardized information on flight attendant's medical conditions that may be related to the cabin environment. This is an important cause. You also have the option to be put in touch with other flight attendants with the same medical condition, for support or practical advice. Participation is totally voluntary, but the system will only be useful if people use it, so spread the word!" "Health Reporting System for Alaska Flight Attendants" One of our Alaska flight attendants, Janet Barbrack, was the impetus for the creation of the AFA International FAH-RS. Janet has offered to provide a similar service just for the F/A's at Alaska. The purpose is to keep each other informed about the types of health related problems that may be related to our flying environment. It is also a way to look for clusters of the same illnesses happening in our F/A group. This may be an important first step to change. If you are interested in participating, please contact Janet at: Telephone: 425 392-4190 Fax: 425 392-5605 Email: healthreporting@comcast.net
